Some map inspiration

Michael Slagle

This NY based artist finds his inspiration from maps. Maps are a huge inspiration to me, so its nice to see how another artist interprets them. Check out his website here

I've been thinking it would be nice to design some book covers to balance all the corporate design I do. I found this really cool inspirational site for book covers. Check it out here

Whew, made it through tuesday.

Today was a long day of image searching at work. It is a really important part of the execution of an idea. You have to find that perfect photo.

A big part of my job right now is image searches. I will spend hours looking for that one perfect picture that works beautifully with the concept and layout. Its a pretty laborous process that makes my head feel like its swelling. Anyways, I don't understand why getty, veer, corbis, and istock only have pictures of people smiling their face off, but none where they just look natural. So if any stock photographers ever read this can u please get the models to just look a little less fake.

I was trying to find an image of two people having a conversation in a resturant so I typed in engaged conversation at resturant Guess what I got. Lots of people sitting in resturants on their cell phones or on their computer. There is something really wrong with this picture (no pun intended). well actually it was....:)

On a brighter note, my yoga practice has been progressing quite nicely. I'm finally getting alot of strength in my core which allows me to do al kinds of stuff. Today for the first time ever, I nailed a head stand. It was pretty cool.

I spend alot of time on flickr and i'm always delighted to see what cool stuff people post. Check out some really cool journal scans here.

This was an awesome find I got off of ifitshipitshere.blgospot.com The designers are Nicholas Lovegrove & Demian Repucci. What a nice play on the traditional dutch tableware. Me likes :)

After using rubberbands this past summer for my portfolio piece I have a new awareness of rubber bands in general. How stretchy they are, how thick, do they leave a film on ur fingers, etc. I was very pleased to see the use of rubber bands combinded with Ceramics by Louise Campbell. It is such a nice color pop on the white.

I heart biology

Natalia, this is for you...

I found an really cool blog that has a plethora of these vintage biology related drawing. I spent way too long looking through some of them. You have to check them out!

When i first saw this image, I was thinking it was an amazing painting that would look really good in my dining room. Then i realized it is a Porpida porpida, a deep underwater creature that is related to the jelly and fish and spans an inch wide. I am always impressed at how unbelieveably amazing of an artist/designer God is. If you want to be nerdy and see more cool underwater stuff go here. :)

The quilt is done!

I finished the quilt last night! I am pretty happy with the way it turned out. It was ALOT of work though and I'm glad to have it done. It tried it out last night and was so cosy!

Apparently you can buy multiple puzzels with the same number of pieces and the die cut is in the same place on all of them. You can mix and match pieces from all the different puzzels to make this. Pretty cool eh? This is one of the many projects artist, Kent Rogowski, created.

Here are some of his other works.

I found this wonderful source on flickr for fancy letter press stuff. Go here to do more searching.

Homage to the Circle

Circles keeping coming up in my daily life (physical and metaphorical) so I've decided to take some time to acknowledge them. They are pretty much everywhere.

Chris Kenny has a large body of beautiful meticulous work. I find it very charming. I wish i could see a show of is his in person.

Recipe Time!

Zucchini Pancakes

2 eggs beaten
1/2 zucchini shredded
Small handful of Mozzarella cheese
Tomatoes or hot sauce

Mix the eggs and zucchini. Coat the pan with olive oil and pour into pan once it is very hot. Fry on both sides and then top with tomatoes and cheese. Yum! (makes two pancakes)

I started the South Beach diet a week ago. I've noticed that my meals are much more aesthetically beautiful. The colors are much richer. Anyways, it hasn't been easy. There are so many temptations, especially at work. But so far, so good. I've lost 5 pounds, 10 more to go. The Zucchini Pancakes, are approved for phase 1 of south beach diet. This recipe is a modification of my good friend Nina's recipe.

The quilt goes on. This weekend I worked pretty much non stop on it. It was the first time in awhile where i've been in the zone for so long. I really didn't even want to be inconvenienced to eat. I'm not done yet but I'm getting very close. There is motivation for me to finish because it has completely taken over my apartment. There is nowhere but paths to walk through.

Getting back into the swing of things

So what better way to send off a hand written letter, than by putting a Charles and Ray Eames stamp on it. Just so everyone knows, Charles and Ray Eames are my design heros. I admire them in so many ways. These stamps should be in a post office near you! Yay!

This is a tee-shirt off of threadless.com that I would buy if I had a ton of disposable income. It makes me giggle. Out loud.

I've been wanting to make a quilt for quite some time and since I got a down comfortor for christmas I decided I would make a down/duvet cover. I found this beautiful fabric from the Fabric District on Harry Hines St. In Dallas, TX. Its my favorite place to shop for fabric. Cheap and nice. I gonna try to update with my progress. The first step was to wash all the fabric and iron it. It seems like an easy task, but ironing is HARD. I'm terrible at it. Soon, I will cut out some of the blocks.

This is what it will sort of look like in the end.
