Fun Vintage Stuff

My birthday is on Saturday so I treated myself to some awesome vintage stuff from Rerun, a local resale shop. Firstly, I found this incredible trunk with lots of character. The inside is lined with this vintagey green floral print and it will be perfect for selling at street fairs. I'm starting to have a pretty good collection of old suitcases.

I also found some really cute vintage fabrics. I can't wait to use these. I have some patchwork ideas in mind.

Can you even resist these cute drums!

And every collection needs alittle americana.

Coin Purse Production Update

I'm making a batch of coin purses with more of my hand printed fabric. Becuase the outside is so busy to begin with, I choose a bigger scale flannel pattern for this purse. I'm really enjoying the pop color zippers I bought. They really add a nice detail to the pouch.

I'm still trying to figure out what to call these coin purses. I wanted to have names for the different styles of purses i'm making. Kind of like ikea does. Donathon suggested calling these tiny coin purses Bus Fair which is cute. Do yall have any ideas?

Watson Wedding Screen Printed Invitation Suite

The Watson invitaiton suite was hand screen printed with two colors at The Pull, in Portland, OR. I designed the invitations, but it really was a group effort. Matt, the groom, is a designer so he had a lot of imput into the design, and Donathon, helped a ton with the printing.

This invitation was for an outdoor wedding in Sisters, OR which is a beautiful location with gorgeous pine trees and mountains all around. That being said, nature elements became a big element of the wedding identity. The tree made a really nice metaphor for the marriage.

This old western type makes since when you see the city of Sisters. It's an old cowboy town and all of the shops on the main drag use western fonts for their signs. It's very charming. The bride and groom's silhouette was another graphic used throughout the wedding identity.
I worked in some cute little icons into the invite. I like the way the dancing shoes turned out.

The RSVP notecard is a 2 color screen printed card on one side. We wanted the blue tree to be a subtle element so I made the color a slightly darker blue than the paper. The tree became a strong element of the visual identity. I will show more of that in a follow up post. Matt and Jess, the couple, had fun with the copy which set a nice tone for the actual event.

I'm to the final steps. I just need to make some decisions about the finishing touches. I've excited to share the final product with you. They should be in the shop within the week.

Modern Quilting with Boo

I'm excited about this modern quilting book coming out. I love when people take something old school and give a modern twist. Boo Davis has a skillful eye for taking her illustrations and turning them into really cool quilts.

Pretty Produce

This week my CSA produce bin from Minto Island Growers was full of beautiful little surprises. The rainbow carrots are absolutely stunning! I had to immediately grab my camera and have a mini photo shoot.

Rainbow Carrots: Purple, yellow, and orange

Green and Purple Tomatillos

Farm fresh tomatoes: These babies are delish!

Hand Screen Printed Passport Cover

This was a custom order that one of my friends requested. I was pleasantly surprised at the way it turned out. The outside is one of my hand printed designs and the interior is from some recycled fabric I found at SCRAP. I'm obsessed with the nautical stripes right now. It also fits the small pocket notebooks as well which is pretty cool. I'm debating on whether I should offer these in my shop. What do you think?

Sneak Peak: Screen Printed bags in progress

I'm in the process of making a batch of bags for the shop! This is a project I've been thinking about for over six months so it is really nice to see my concepts start to come together. The fabric used for the exterior of the bag is hand silk screened with my original patterns and illustrations.

The interior liner fabric came from Mill End Fabrics here in Portland. I recently spent an entire moring touching all the beautiful fabrics. It was extremely hard to decide on some fabrics, but I ended up falling in love with different plaids and polka dots.

There will be 3 different styles of bags. This is a prototype of the wristlet style, perfect for going out with the essentails. I'm still figuring out the best way to insert the liner of the bag. I ended up breaking two needles putting this bag together which is really frustrating. I'm going to try a few other methods to see what works best for me.

Stay tuned for progress updates!

I Heart Art

I'm excited to participate in the I Heart Art Mixer Match this evening. It's like speed dating between designers/makers and botique owners which is a pretty cool concept. I'm stoked to meet more people in the community.
