M50 Artist Community in Shanghai

M50 was my favorite thing I did in Shanghai. It took me a couple of attempts to find the place. Its near a train station and silly me, I assumed there was only one train station in Shanghai. I was going to the wrong train station. Once I figured that out, it wasn't hard to find the place. It's basically a group of artists living and working in a small community. There are so many contemporary galleries to wander through. and random intriguing objects are laying around too. It's a nice way to spend an afternoon. They even have a little cafe where you can rest and grab a bite. It was delightful. (see pictured below)

This is a small crop of a huge root system of a tree that has some carving in it. Rad.
I found these roses left on a trash can and can help but to wonder about their history.
I ordered the red pepper curry thinking it would be a red bell pepper. Haha, I was so wrong. It was full of spicy chilies.

Sneak Peak at Embroidery on Paper Project

I've really been feeling the need to bust out my needle and thread lately, so I have a little project going. It's almost done now. I'll share more pictures soon. I'm having to be more creative with the way I make things because my resources are limited with what is available on the road. I'm making it work though.

Mong Kok Neighborhood in Hong Kong

This is the bustling neighborhood I stayed in during my HK visit. There is a lot of activity on the streets at pretty much any time of the day. Stuff is always moving, changing, and it's a fantastic place for people watching. I love the grit and the over cluttered nature of this area. The sinage is a bit overwhelming at first but it really grows on you.

Shopping in Shanghai is Scarey

Somehow I found myself wandering into this mega mall looking for a bite to eat. I was greeted by the trippiness of these elevators. There were 8 floors in total all with this zig zag mirrored esculaor, and creepy music playing in a 7 sec loop throughout the atrium in the mall.

This is what I ended up eating in the mall. Curry quesadilla. Not bad for China!

Hand Cut Typography: made in Shanghai

I have started crafting while on the road and it feels so good. It had been way to loon since i picked up some scissors. Right now I am collaborating with Michal Garcia on a stop motion film and this will be a piece of custom type used in it. I'm going for the friendly, regal, cute-sy vibe. Also, I just love the cut up look of the chipboard background. This has been my makeshift cutting mat while on the road. It gets the job done.

I find myself claiming any blank desk or surface as my craft zone in hostels and other various public spaces. Custruction paper, exacto knifes, needle and thread everywhere. This is the way life should be.

Thanks Mr. Bumble Bee

I saw this little sign in the Hong Kong subway and it just kind of hit me. Yes, I should mind my head. Too often I am not really paying attention, and just letting the mind wander aimlessly.

Did I mention I love friendly and cute factor of the signs in Asia.

So you may have noticed I haven't posted anything in a looong time. My friend Michal Garcia has inspired me to get back to blogging. Bear with me as I slowly post pictures from my travels.
