Floral Pattern Creation: Behind The Scenes

I collected these tiny flower specimens on a walk around my neighborhood. So many pretty things are blooming its hard to to be inspired every time I go outside. After I returned home, I spread the flowers out on paper and started sketching from life. I find drawing from life is quite challenging but enjoyable. It takes an extreme amount of concentration to draw exactly what you see and not what you would expect to see.

I'm hoping to get some small floral prints created from these drawings. So far I haven't come up with any promising, but you have to start somewhere.

Sneak Peak: Prototypes For New Embroidery Notebook Kits

I have some new ideas for pocket notebooks that I'm trying out. My process usually works out where I try out several ideas and then pick the best. For this prototype, I print out the design on paper, tape in place, and then poke holes with a needle (it's kind of hard on my fingers, but its worth it). After the holes are made, I stitch it up, which is by far my favorite part. I love the satisfaction of seeing a design come to life.

Quality Time With My Seam Ripper

I'm in the process of making a much needed duvet cover for my bed. I'm DIYing a look that I saw at west elm. I'm totally attracted to the overall look of the pintucks and how they make a puffy pattern. So pretty and luxurious.

I'm definitely flying by the seat of my pants on this project. I sewed the first row of puckers and then realized that they were too close together and the comforter wouldn't fit inside. So thats why I'm spending my Saturday morning with coffee and a seam ripper. Yay.

Side note:
I finally got an actual bed with a head board and footboard and everything. It's a gorgeous walnut antique from the 1940s so it deserves to be properly decorated. It's nice to see my bedroom coming together. More on that in the future.
