Working on new kits!

I'm working right now on my 2013 holiday products for the shop. I'm enjoying stitching on wood. Isn't it pretty?

Floral Pattern Creation: Behind The Scenes

I collected these tiny flower specimens on a walk around my neighborhood. So many pretty things are blooming its hard to to be inspired every time I go outside. After I returned home, I spread the flowers out on paper and started sketching from life. I find drawing from life is quite challenging but enjoyable. It takes an extreme amount of concentration to draw exactly what you see and not what you would expect to see.

I'm hoping to get some small floral prints created from these drawings. So far I haven't come up with any promising, but you have to start somewhere.

Laser engraved Birth Announcement

This is a custom birth announcement that I designed for one of my family members. I was pleased with the end result so I wanted to share it with you. I used ponoko to do the laser-ing which cost around $60 for two of these. Not so cheap, but not too expensive either. Feel free to contact me if you would like me to do custom work for your next event.

Hand Screen Printed Passport Cover

This was a custom order that one of my friends requested. I was pleasantly surprised at the way it turned out. The outside is one of my hand printed designs and the interior is from some recycled fabric I found at SCRAP. I'm obsessed with the nautical stripes right now. It also fits the small pocket notebooks as well which is pretty cool. I'm debating on whether I should offer these in my shop. What do you think?

DIY Paper Flower Bouquet

I made these flowers from this tutorial with Jeffery Rudell. Go check it out because it is surprisingly easy and relaxing. I made this bouquet to greet me when I first come in the front door. It adds nice color and personality to my entry way and the best part is it NEVER dies! The paper I used was mostly from paper sample books and junk mail. I happy with the patterns and colors I was able to find and mishmash together.

Lovely Flower

My boyfriend got me this flower which makes me smile. I have no idea what it is called so I keep referring to it as the purple pom pom. Can anybody help me out here? I love all the details when you look at it closely!

Field Trip Time

I took an afternoon field trip outside to look for inspiration for my 2010 calendar illustrations. I'm hunting for great patterns, textures, and shapes. These are all pictures taken in NW Portland. There are some lovely plants blooming right now.
